Five Tips On Removing Stains On Leather Handbags

Handbags made of leather are often shiny but prolonged use can result to a duller shine. Often times, we take our leather handbags for granted. We simply store them or dump them when the day is done. What we don't know is that such practices can be damaging to our leather handbags.

It is essential that we maintain our handbag's pristine image that is why a stain is a big no-no. However, in case you stained your leather handbag, here are some tips to solve your problem

1. Do not let it sit. This has always been the number one rule in every stain dilemma. This rule does not only apply when you stain your clothing but also when you stain your leather handbag. Letting a stain set in by not removing it immediately will result to it being harder to remove simply because it has penetrated the deeper parts of the fabric. The stain will then end up becoming permanent marring the beauty of your leather handbag.

A stained leather handbag is not nice to look at. The stained area will surely get some attention; the kind of attention you don't want to be bestowed on your bag. So to keep that from happening, clean the stain as early as possible.

2. Use cornstarch or talcum powder for oil and greasy stains. When you get oil or grease stains on your leather handbag, pour cornstarch or talcum powder over the stained area as light dusting will not work. After pouring, let it sit overnight. During that time, the cornstarch or talcum powder will absorb the grease or oil out of the leather.

Some experts would advise you that after you pour the cornstarch or talcum powder over the stained area, you are to rub it unto the surface to make it more effective. But either way, using cornstarch or talcum powder is still the best way to remove oil and grease stains on leather handbags. In addition, both don't contain harmful chemicals that can end up damaging the leather.

3. Water may seem harmless but it has the capacity to stain your leather handbag. For water stains, all you have to do is to let it dry the natural way. Keep it away from artificial heat sources. Letting it dry naturally will keep water spots from forming. When everything is all dried up, you can opt to condition your bag with a leather conditioner.

4. Don't you find it frustrating to find a gum stuck underneath your favorite leather bag? We all know gums tend to stick to surfaces and having one stuck on your leather handbag is worth the worry. You need not fret though because all you have to do is to harden the gum to make it easier to remove. One way to harden the gum is to rub ice wrapped in a clean cloth. Another way is to heat the gum using a hair dryer with a low setting.

5. Another type of stain you would want to avoid is ink stain. Ink stains on leather can be very hard to remove and if you let it stay for a while, you might end up with a permanent stain on your leather handbag. There are various ways to remove ink stains in leather handbags some of which are using denatured alcohol, baby wipes and gel.

Keep in mind though, before you use any of those mentioned on a large area always test it on a small area first to make sure that it doesn't alter or affect the leather finish. If it does, then you might want to try something else. When the stain has been removed, finish up by applying a leather conditioner on your leather handbag.
