Five Suede Handbag Care Tips

Handbags are made from different materials and one of those materials is suede. A suede handbag is nice to look at but you have to take good care of it to keep it in tip top shape. Here are some suede handbag care tips.

1. The best way to protect your suede handbag from the elements is by coating it with a suede protectant as well as with a water repellant. Do not expect that after you buy a suede handbag, you can simply store it inside the closet or hang it at the closet door.

To keep your suede handbag looking good as new, you will have to spray it with a suede protectant. Suede protectant sprays can be bought at the malls or are sold exclusively by some handbag retailers. The instructions on how to use the spray are often found on the label.

Generally the suede protectant is sprayed lightly on your suede handbag. Once the first layer or coating is dry, a second layer is then sprayed. Applying the suede protectant spray should be done outside and out of the wind.

2. It is natural and inevitable for your suede handbag to end up with some spots in various areas but you need not fret though because you can remove these spots using a rubber eraser, the kind used to erase pencils. These rubber erasers can be bought from school supply shops or from bookstores.

If this procedure doesn't work, then you will have to buy a suede cleaner. These suede cleaners are used to remove stubborn spots or stains on your suede handbag. Leaving these spots and stains can surely affect the physical appearance of your precious suede handbag. Remember to follow the instructions though when using a suede cleaner.

3. Keeping your suede handbag dry is essential. Water and moisture can have an effect on the suede material. If you are using your suede handbag on a rainy day, keep it dry by wrapping a plastic bag around it or you can always put it inside a plastic shopping bag to keep it dry. In case it gets wet in some areas, pat it dry using a white cloth or paper towel immediately. Air dry it after.

4. To remove dust and dirt particles, brush your suede handbag using a suede brush. This process should be done before you store your handbag. Doing this will remove particles that might have attached itself to the surface of the bag. Do not use another type of brush because the suede brush is made especially for suede. Other brushes might have bristles that are too stiff which can damage the suede material.

5. Always make sure that your handbag is dry and clean before you store it. To keep the bag from losing its shape you can stuff clumps of tissue paper inside it.

The suede material is unique so it is best that when you own a suede handbag you take very good care of it.
